The black box model intuits well for us CrossFitters. You put something in…wait awhile…and then observe what you get out. If you like what you get out you keep using that which you first put in. If you don’t then you ditch it. It works when evaluating movements for a fitness program and also when evaluating business strategies.
Robb and I opened the doors of CrossFit NorCal in January of 2004. We were the fourth affiliate behind CrossFit North in Seattle, CrossFit East in Florida and CrossFit Kansas City. It was an entirely different time. No one had ever heard of CrossFit.
It is my hope that this blog will help other affiliates achieve success more rapidly by avoiding many of the mistakes (and I do mean MANY) that we made during our journey.
